Job Title: Construction Estimator
Job Summary:
The Construction Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating construction costs and preparing bids for construction projects in Canada. This role requires expertise in construction estimating techniques, knowledge of industry practices, and strong analytical skills. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with project teams, analyze project requirements, and contribute to the successful acquisition of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand project requirements and scope.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and measurements to estimate the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for construction.
- Research and gather data on material costs, subcontractor prices, and labor rates to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Utilize construction estimating software and tools to create detailed and comprehensive cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather input and insights for cost estimation.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals, including pricing breakdowns, project schedules, and scope clarifications.
- Evaluate and analyze subcontractor and supplier bids and proposals to determine the most competitive and cost-effective options.
- Participate in bid review meetings and negotiations with clients and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of estimating data, including cost databases, historical data, and project documentation.
- Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and construction costs to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating techniques, methodologies, and industry practices.
- Proficiency in using construction estimating software and tools.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
- Experience working on construction projects in Canada or similar environments.
- Knowledge of Canadian construction codes, regulations, and market conditions.
- Familiarity with different types of construction contracts and procurement methods.
- Understanding of value engineering and cost optimization techniques.
