Job Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and maintain mainframe systems and associated hardware and software components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze system requirements and design solutions that meet business needs.
- Install, upgrade, and apply patches to mainframe operating systems, databases, and applications.
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
- Implement security measures to protect mainframe systems from potential threats and vulnerabilities.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mainframe-related issues, resolving incidents promptly.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaborate with application developers to ensure seamless integration of mainframe systems with business applications.
- Plan and execute disaster recovery and backup strategies for mainframe environments.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to mainframe systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Mainframe Systems Engineer or similar role.
- Strong understanding of mainframe hardware, operating systems (such as z/OS), and associated technologies.
- Proficiency in mainframe programming languages (COBOL, PL/I, Assembler) and scripting languages.
- Familiarity with mainframe databases (DB2, IMS) and job scheduling tools (CA-7, Control-M).
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Valid work permit or eligibility for visa sponsorship in Canada.
